Rifa'ah ibn Rafi' al-Ansari al-Zuraqi, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Ansar of Medina and a participant in the Battle of Badr — one of the most distinguished honors a companion could hold. His participation at Badr placed him among the first rank of the companions in terms of virtue, as the Prophet ﷺ said that Allah looked upon the people of Badr and said He had forgiven them. Rifa'ah narrated several hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ, including important narrations about prayer and its proper performance. One of his well-known narrations involves the famous incident of 'the man who prayed badly,' in which the Prophet ﷺ corrected a companion's prayer and taught him each pillar in sequence — a narration foundational to books of fiqh on the description of salah. He also transmitted reports about the manners of eating and other aspects of daily Sunnah. His narrations are preserved in the Sunan of Abu Dawud, al-Nasai, and al-Tirmidhi, and are relied upon in classical jurisprudence.
