Sa'id ibn Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl al-Qurashi al-Adawi, may Allah be pleased with him, was one of the ten companions explicitly promised Paradise by the Prophet ﷺ in the famous narration transmitted through Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf. He was a cousin of Umar ibn al-Khattab and the husband of Umar's sister Fatima bint al-Khattab — it was at their home that Umar himself first encountered the Quran and was guided to Islam. Sa'id and his wife embraced Islam very early, before the Prophet ﷺ began open preaching. He participated in nearly all the major military campaigns of the Prophet ﷺ, though he missed the Battle of Badr because he was on a mission and the Prophet ﷺ gave him the status and share of a Badr participant. He narrated hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on topics including the prohibition of wrongful seizure of land — a famous narration warning that whoever takes even a handspan of land unjustly will have it wrapped around his neck on the Day of Resurrection. His narrations are preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Sunan collections.
