Ubadah ibn al-Samit al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was a senior Companion from the Khazraj tribe of Medina and one of the twelve representatives (nuqaba) chosen at the Second Pledge of Aqabah before the Hijra, demonstrating his early and prominent standing in the Ansari community. He participated in the Battle of Badr and all subsequent major campaigns and was among the most learned of the Companions in Quranic studies and the Sunnah. He is known for transmitting one of the most foundational hadiths in Islamic jurisprudence: the conditions of the testimony of faith and its requirements, as well as hadiths on the prohibition of riba (usury) and the importance of reciting Surah al-Fatiha in every unit of prayer. He served as a judge and teacher in Palestine after the Islamic conquest of the Levant and was among the first Muslim educators in that region. He narrated approximately 181 hadiths. He passed away in Palestine around 34 AH and is buried there. His narrations are found in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all the major Sunan collections.
