Samurah ibn Jundub al-Fazari (RA) was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ who embraced Islam as a young man. There is a well-known account that as a youth he was refused permission by the Prophet ﷺ to join the army because of his young age, but he was eventually permitted after demonstrating his strength. He narrated approximately 128 hadiths covering prayer, commercial dealings, and various religious observances. One of the most discussed of his narrations is his report on the famous 'dream vision' of the Prophet in which the Prophet saw various scenes of the afterlife — this narration is particularly detailed and regularly cited in chapters on eschatology. He later served as governor of Basra under Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan and then under Yazid ibn Muawiya, and his tenure was considered harsh by some historical sources. He passed away around 58–59 AH.
