Sarah was the first wife of Prophet Ibrahim AS and one of the most revered women in Islamic tradition. She accompanied Ibrahim through every trial of his life — the confrontation with Namrud, the emigrations from Babylon, and the years in Palestine and Egypt. She is described in Islamic tradition as a woman of exceptional beauty and unwavering faith. The Quran mentions her directly when the angels came to Ibrahim with news: she laughed with joy when given the glad tidings of a son, Ishaq AS, despite her old age (Surah Hud 11:71-72). Her response of amazement — 'What! Shall I bear a child when I am an old woman and this husband of mine is an old man?' — is an expression of awe at the power of Allah, not disbelief. Islamic tradition records that when Ibrahim took Hajar and the infant Ismail to the valley of Mecca by Allah's command and left them there, Sarah was aware of the divine purpose behind the action. Sarah was the mother of Ishaq AS, from whom the line of prophecy continued through Yaqub (Israel) and the Israelite prophets. She died before Ibrahim AS according to traditional accounts and is honored as a model of patience, faith, and loyalty through decades of migration, trial, and the long wait for a child. Her story demonstrates that divine gifts — including children — can come at any time by the will of Allah.
