Thabit bin Adh-Dahhak al-Ansari al-Khazraji, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ who gave the pledge of allegiance under the tree at al-Hudaybiyyah — the Bay'at al-Ridwan — of which Allah said in the Quran that He was pleased with those who gave it. This pledge took place in 6 AH and is considered one of the highest honors in a companion's biography. Thabit narrated hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on matters of oaths, vows, and the boundaries of faith. Among his important narrations is a report clarifying that vowing to do something not owned is invalid, and a narration about the seriousness of false oaths. He also transmitted narrations on the prohibition of killing a fellow Muslim by accusation. His narrations are preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim as well as in the Sunan collections, and are cited in classical fiqh manuals in chapters on oaths and vows. He is regarded as a reliable companion narrator whose small number of transmissions are nonetheless of high legal importance.
