Thawban ibn Bujdud (RA) was a freed slave who became deeply devoted to the Prophet ﷺ and chose to remain in his service rather than returning to independence. He was so attached to the Prophet ﷺ that scholars noted he could not bear to be separated from him — and when the Prophet ﷺ saw the sorrow in his face, he asked about it, and Thawban explained that he feared being separated from the Prophet in the afterlife by virtue of the Prophet's higher station. The Prophet ﷺ responded with a narration about those who will be with the people they love. He narrated approximately 128 hadiths, including important traditions on eschatology, the superiority of certain acts of worship, and warnings about the latter days. After the Prophet's death he settled in Syria, where he lived and taught until his death around 54 AH.
