Umm Salama (RA), whose full name was Hind bint Abi Umayya al-Makhzumiyya, was one of the earliest Muslims and one of the Mothers of the Believers. She and her first husband Abu Salama were among those who emigrated to Abyssinia in the first hijra, then later to Medina. After Abu Salama's death from a wound sustained at Uhud, she became a wife of the Prophet ﷺ. She was known for her wisdom, her sound judgment, and her courage in offering counsel: she famously advised the Prophet ﷺ at al-Hudaybiyya when the companions were reluctant to follow his instruction, and her advice proved decisive. She narrated approximately 378 hadiths covering the Prophet's personal conduct, worship, household life, and legal rulings. Companions and Tabi'in regularly sought her rulings and clarifications on religious matters. She outlived all the other wives of the Prophet ﷺ, dying around 62–63 AH — the last of the Mothers of the Believers to pass away.
