Hakim ibn Hizam, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and a nephew of the Prophet's first wife Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. He holds the unique distinction of being one of the few people reported to have been born inside the Kaaba itself. Born approximately fifteen years before the Year of the Elephant, he lived to nearly one hundred years of age, having spent roughly half his life before Islam and half within it. He embraced Islam at the conquest of Mecca in 8 AH and thereafter became a sincere and devoted companion. He was renowned throughout Arabia for his extraordinary generosity, reportedly freeing one hundred slaves during the pre-Islamic period and another hundred after accepting Islam. He narrated hadiths on commercial ethics, the rules of trade, and the importance of honesty in transactions — including the well-known hadith affirming that buyer and seller retain the right to cancel a transaction as long as they have not yet parted. His narrations are particularly significant in Islamic commercial jurisprudence and are cited in all four major legal schools. His reports appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and other major collections.
