Ya'la ibn Umayyah al-Tamimi al-Hanafi, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ also known by the name Ya'la ibn Munabbih. He participated in military expeditions and served in administrative roles under the early caliphate. He is particularly known for narrating the detailed account of a man who approached the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage wearing a garment soaked in perfume (khaluq) and asking about performing Hajj in that state. The Prophet ﷺ waited for revelation and then instructed him to wash off the perfume, remove the garment, and perform the rites as one would do in ihram. This narration became a primary source for the rules of ihram, including the prohibition on wearing sewn garments and using perfume. Ya'la also narrated reports on other aspects of Hajj and worship. He was known for his wealth and generosity. His narrations are preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Sunan collections, where they are central references in chapters on Hajj.
