Yasir Qadhi (b. 1395 AH / 1975 CE) is an American Islamic scholar born in Houston, Texas to Pakistani immigrant parents. He completed a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston before pursuing Islamic studies. He studied at the Islamic University of Madinah, where he completed an undergraduate degree in Hadith Sciences and a Master's degree in Aqeedah. He subsequently earned a PhD in Religious Studies from Yale University, making him one of the few scholars trained in both traditional Islamic institutions in the Muslim world and elite Western academia.
Dr. Yasir Qadhi served for many years as the Dean of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib Institute, a prominent English-language Islamic educational organization with chapters across North America and internationally. Through AlMaghrib, he taught intensive weekend seminars on Islamic theology, Quranic sciences, seerah, and other subjects to tens of thousands of English-speaking Muslims. His teaching style is known for being clear, academically rigorous, and accessible to educated Western audiences.
He has authored and translated several works on Islamic theology, including An Introduction to the Sciences of the Quran and Du'a: The Weapon of the Believer. His doctoral research at Yale focused on the works of Ibn Taymiyyah. He is also known for his extensive online presence, including a popular YouTube lecture series on the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad covering dozens of hours.
In terms of aqeedah, Yasir Qadhi was trained in the Athari/Salafi framework at Madinah University and has publicly discussed the evolution of his views over time, acknowledging greater nuance in his approach to intra-Muslim theological differences. He currently serves as a resident scholar and imam at the East Plano Islamic Center in Texas. His work represents a significant contribution to English-language Islamic scholarship and education.
