Al-Musayyib ibn Hazn al-Makhzumi (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ and the father of the great Tabi'i jurist Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, who became the foremost scholar of the Tabi'in generation. Al-Musayyib embraced Islam and was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ who witnessed several of the key events of the prophetic era. He is known for a narration preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari related to the final illness and death of Abu Talib, the Prophet's uncle: the Prophet ﷺ came to visit Abu Talib on his deathbed and invited him to accept Islam, but Abu Talib did not take the testimony of faith in his final moments. This narration is among the most cited in Islamic scholarship on the topic of the fate of those who die without faith and the limits of prophetic intercession. His reports are found in the major hadith collections.
