Zaid ibn Arqam al-Ansari al-Khazraji (RA) was a young companion who participated in seventeen military expeditions with the Prophet ﷺ. He is known for one particularly important act of honesty: as a young man he overheard the leader of the hypocrites, Abdullah ibn Ubayy, making a statement of betrayal against the Prophet ﷺ. He reported it to the Prophet ﷺ despite pressure from his uncle to stay quiet. The subsequent revelation of Surah al-Munafiqun vindicated his report. He narrated approximately 66 hadiths. His famous narration of the Hadith of Ghadir Khumm — in which the Prophet ﷺ emphasized the importance of the Quran and his household — is one of his most cited narrations. He settled in Kufa and was held in high esteem. He passed away around 65–68 AH.
