Conversion of Uthman ibn Affan

إسلام عثمان بن عفان

Mecca

Uthman ibn Affan of Banu Umayyah accepted Islam through the invitation of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, becoming one of the earliest converts. Uthman was a wealthy, handsome, and modest young merchant known for his generosity. His conversion was particularly significant because he came from the powerful Umayyad clan, which would later become one of Islam's fiercest opponents under Abu Sufyan. His uncle al-Hakam ibn Abi al-As tied him up and vowed not to release him until he renounced Islam, but Uthman's resolve was unshakeable. He would later marry two of the Prophet's daughters, first Ruqayyah and then Umm Kulthum, earning the title Dhun-Nurayn (Possessor of Two Lights). He became the third Rightly Guided Caliph.
