Detailed Account of the Expulsion of Banu Qaynuqa
تفاصيل إجلاء بني قينقاع
After the Muslim victory at Badr, the Jewish tribe of Banu Qaynuqa became openly hostile. The immediate trigger was an incident in their market: a Muslim woman was sitting at a goldsmith's shop when a Jewish man fastened the edge of her garment to her back with a thorn. When she stood up, she was exposed, and the surrounding men laughed. A Muslim man killed the offending goldsmith, and the Jews then killed the Muslim man. Banu Qaynuqa retreated to their fortresses, and the Prophet besieged them for fifteen days. When they surrendered, Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul, the chief hypocrite and a former ally of the Qaynuqa, interceded strongly for their lives, grabbing the Prophet's armor and refusing to let go. The Prophet's face darkened with anger, but he allowed them to leave Medina with their families, forfeiting their wealth, weapons, and goldsmithing tools. They resettled in Wadi al-Qura and eventually moved to Adhri'at in Syria.
