The Prophet's Marriage to Zaynab bint Khuzaymah

زواج النبي ﷺ من زينب بنت خزيمة

Medina

Zaynab bint Khuzaymah was known as Umm al-Masakin (Mother of the Poor) for her exceptional generosity toward the needy even before Islam. She was widowed when her husband Abdullah ibn Jahsh was martyred at the Battle of Uhud. The Prophet married her to care for her and honor her charitable nature. She was the only wife of the Prophet other than Khadijah who died during his lifetime, passing away approximately eight months after the marriage. Her brief marriage to the Prophet demonstrated his commitment to providing for the widows of martyrs. Despite the short duration, she is honored as one of the Mothers of the Believers. Her title Umm al-Masakin reflected the same compassion for the poor that Islam sought to instill in all believers.
