Al-Bara ibn Azib (RA) was from the Ansar of Medina, of the tribe of Aws. He was one of the companions who was initially prevented from participating in the Battle of Badr because of his young age — the Prophet ﷺ sent him back — and this detail is preserved in hadith. He went on to participate in eighteen military expeditions alongside the Prophet ﷺ, including all of the major campaigns. He narrated approximately 305 hadiths covering prayer, the description of the Prophet ﷺ, funeral rites, and events from the early Islamic conquests. After the Prophet's death he settled in Kufa, where he became an important and reliable transmitter of prophetic knowledge in Iraq. His narrations are found in all major hadith collections and are particularly valued for their firsthand accounts of the Prophet's conduct during battles and expeditions. He passed away in Kufa around 72 AH.
