English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Wahb ibn Jarir, from his father, who heard al-Saq'ab ibn Zuhayr narrating from Zayd ibn Aslam, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr — that a Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ wearing a jubba of taylasana fabric, lined or buttoned with dibaj [silk brocade]. He said: 'Your companion here wants to elevate every shepherd son of a shepherd, and bring down every horseman son of a horseman [i.e., reverse the social order].' the Prophet ﷺ rose up angered, seized the front of his jubba and pulled him, and said: 'I do not see on you the garments of one who has no understanding.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned and sat down, and said: 'Indeed, Nuh (عليه السلام), when death came to him, called his two sons and said: "I am giving you a brief testament — I command you with two things and I forbid you from two things. I forbid you from shirk and arrogance. And I command you with La ilaha illa Allah — for if the heavens and the earth and all that is in them were placed in one pan of the scale, and La ilaha illa Allah were placed in the other pan, it would outweigh them. And if the heavens and the earth were [like] a ring and La ilaha illa Allah were placed upon it, it would crack it apart [or: shatter it]. And I command you with Subhan Allah wa bi-hamdihi — for it is the [prayer of] glorification of all things, and by it all things are sustained."'
