قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ الْغَازِ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلّ
َمَ قَالَ مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ قَالُوا الَّذِي يُقَاتِلُ فَيُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهِيدٌ يَعْنِي النُّفَسَاءَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'What do you count as a martyr among yourselves?' They said: 'The one who fights and is killed in the path of Allah.' He ﷺ said: 'In that case the martyrs of my nation would be very few. Dying in the path of Allah is martyrdom, death by plague is martyrdom, death by stomach ailment is martyrdom, and the woman who dies in childbirth is a martyr.'
