Abdullah ibn Abi Qatada al-Ansari al-Khazraji was a Tabi'i scholar and the son of the famous companion Abu Qatada al-Harith ibn Rib'i al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, who was one of the Prophet's ﷺ most renowned horsemen and a prolific narrator of hadith. Abdullah narrated extensively from his father, transmitting Abu Qatada's important reports on prayer, fasting, and prophetic conduct. Abu Qatada's narrations preserved in Sahih Muslim and other collections often reached later generations through this father-son chain. Among the significant hadiths transmitted this way are reports about the Prophet's ﷺ manner of carrying his granddaughter Umama during prayer, which is cited as evidence for the permissibility of carrying a child during salah, as well as reports about fasting on the day of Arafah and Monday. Abdullah was considered a reliable narrator by hadith scholars. His narrations appear in Sahih Muslim, the Sunan of Abu Dawud, al-Nasai, and other major collections. He represents the continuation of his father's prophetic knowledge through the scholarly tradition of Medina.
