Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Abi Talib al-Hashimi, may Allah be pleased with him, appears in the narrator list a second time under a slightly different transliteration. He was the son of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, the Prophet's ﷺ cousin who was martyred at the Battle of Mu'tah in 8 AH. After his father's martyrdom, Abdullah was taken into the care of the Prophet ﷺ himself, who personally supervised his upbringing alongside Ali ibn Abi Talib and the rest of the Hashimite household. The Prophet ﷺ made du'a for him personally and expressed great love for him. He narrated hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ and also from his mother Asma' bint Umays, who was among the great women companions. He settled in Medina and was widely known for his extraordinary generosity — a quality he was said to have inherited from his father Ja'far, nicknamed Abu al-Masakin for his care of the poor. His generosity was so celebrated that it became proverbial in Arab culture. His narrations appear in Sahih Muslim and other major collections, covering prophetic conduct, supplication, and aspects of daily Sunnah.
