Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ uniquely entrusted with knowledge of hypocrites and future trials (fitan). His full name was Hudhayfah ibn Husayl ibn Jabir al-Absiy. The Prophet ﷺ shared with him the names of the hypocrites in Medina — knowledge he kept secret — and disclosed to him details of coming tribulations that were not shared with other Companions. This made him a singular source for narrations on civil strife, the signs of the Hour, and the characteristics of hypocrites. He served as a trusted governor of al-Mada'in under Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab and was consulted by Uthman ibn Affan on the standardization of the Quranic mushaf. He narrated approximately 261 hadiths and was known for his frankness and his refusal to flatter rulers. He passed away in al-Mada'in in 36 AH, just months after Uthman's assassination. This entry is a variant spelling of the Companion also listed as Hudhaifa ibn al-Yaman.
