Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas al-Zuhri (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the earliest converts to Islam and one of the ten Companions given the explicit glad tidings of Paradise by the Prophet ﷺ. His full name was Sa'd ibn Malik ibn Uhaib al-Zuhri, and he was a maternal uncle of the Prophet ﷺ through the Zuhra branch of Quraysh. He embraced Islam at approximately seventeen years of age, reportedly the third or sixth person to do so. He was one of the most skilled archers among the Companions and the first to shed blood in the path of Islam. He led the Muslim armies at the decisive Battle of al-Qadisiyyah in 15–16 AH, completing the conquest of Persia — one of the most consequential victories in Islamic history. He narrated approximately 271 hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on faith, prayer, and sincere reliance on Allah. He was famous for the acceptance of his supplications, which the Prophet ﷺ prayed for specifically. He passed away in al-Aqiq near Medina around 55–58 AH. This is a variant listing of the Companion also recorded as Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas.
