This entry represents a variant transmission of the well-known hadith chain: Amr ibn Shu'ayb from his father Shu'ayb from his grandfather. The chain appears frequently in the Sunan hadith collections and carries significant weight in classical fiqh literature despite some discussion among hadith critics about its precise reliability. Amr ibn Shu'ayb (d. 118 AH) was a respected Tabi'i scholar based in the Hijaz who transmitted from his father and grandfather's narrations. The 'grandfather' in this chain is understood by the majority of scholars to be Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (RA), the companion famous for his personal hadith archive. This chain was extensively used by the four major legal schools — particularly by Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam al-Shafi'i, and Imam Ahmad — in deriving legal rulings, even as they may have assessed its technical grade somewhat differently. Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal reportedly said this chain was acceptable to him. The narrations transmitted through it include significant rulings on marriage dower, treatment of workers, commercial transactions, and penal law. In fiqh literature, it is referred to simply as 'hadith Amr ibn Shu'ayb an abihi an jaddihi.' The variant entry in hadith databases reflects the slightly different phrasing used in different collections but refers to the same fundamental transmission chain preserving the prophetic teachings through the Ibn Amr family.
