Ubayy ibn Ka'b al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the most distinguished Companions of the Prophet ﷺ in Quranic knowledge and was among the scribes who recorded the Quranic revelation during the prophetic era. His full name was Ubayy ibn Ka'b ibn Qays al-Khazraji al-Ansari. The Prophet ﷺ specifically instructed his followers to learn the Quran from four Companions — one of whom was Ubayy ibn Ka'b. The Prophet himself recited the Quran to Ubayy and told him that Allah had commanded the Quran be recited to him by name, an honor that placed Ubayy in a singular position. He was the imam of Tarawih prayer in Medina during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab and is credited with unifying the Muslims behind a single imam in those prayers. He narrated hadiths on the Quran, prayer, and Islamic conduct, and his reports are found in the major Sunan collections. He passed away around 19–32 AH.
