Asma bint Abi Bakr al-Siddiq (RA) was the elder sister of Aisha (RA) and the daughter of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. She is known by the epithet Dhat al-Nitaqayn — the Lady of the Two Girdles — because she tore her girdle in two to tie the food provisions she carried to the Prophet ﷺ and her father as they hid in the Cave of Thawr during the Hijra. This act of courage and sacrifice at one of the most critical moments in Islamic history earned her enduring honour. She was married to al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (RA) and was the mother of Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr. She narrated approximately 58 hadiths. She lived to 100 years of age — it is said her teeth never fell out and her mind remained sharp until the end. She passed away in 73 AH in Mecca, shortly after the martyrdom of her son Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr.
