Zayd ibn Thabit al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Khazraj tribe of Medina who served as one of the most trusted scribes of the Quranic revelation. He learned the Quran under the Prophet ﷺ himself, committed it to memory, and wrote it down as it was revealed. After the Battle of Yamama in 12 AH, when many Quran memorizers were killed, Caliph Abu Bakr al-Siddiq commissioned Zayd to compile the revealed verses into a single written volume — a task Zayd carried out with great care, accepting only verses verified by two witnesses. Later, during the caliphate of Uthman ibn Affan, he led the committee that produced the standardized Uthmanic mushaf distributed across the Islamic world. He was also a scribe of the Prophet ﷺ for official correspondence. He narrated approximately ninety-two hadiths and was regarded as the highest authority in Medina on Quranic matters, inheritance law, and Islamic jurisprudence. He passed away around 45 AH. This is a variant spelling of the Companion also listed as Zaid bin Thabit.
