Abu al-Minhal was a Tabi'i narrator identified in several sources as Abu al-Minhal Sayyar ibn Salamah al-Riyahi, a Basran scholar who narrated from his father and from Abu Barza al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him), a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ. His narrations appear in the major hadith collections, particularly Sahih al-Bukhari, in chapters on commercial transactions, prayer, and Islamic daily practice. He is regarded as a reliable narrator by the scholars of rijal criticism. His most cited narration involves a question he asked his father and Abu Barza together about currency exchange (sarf) and the prohibition of riba in such dealings, which became a reference point in Islamic commercial law. His position as a reliable Tabi'i transmitter from the Basran school placed him within the network of scholars who preserved the Sunnah in Iraq. He is considered trustworthy and his narrations in the collections are accepted by the scholarly tradition.
