Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir was a distinguished Tabi'i scholar and one of the most trusted hadith transmitters in Medina. He was the son of a companion and lived approximately from 30 AH until 130 AH. He narrated from prominent companions including Jabir ibn Abdullah, Aisha, Abu Hurairah, and Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with them all. He is among the most reliable of the Medinan Tabi'in narrators, and all hadith critics classified him as thiqah (trustworthy) without reservation. He was celebrated for his profound personal piety: he was known to weep extensively in prayer from fear of Allah, and his asceticism was remarked upon by his contemporaries. He transmitted hadiths on a broad range of topics including prayer, fasting, the virtues of deeds and companions, and prophetic conduct. Imam Malik narrated from him in the Muwatta, and his narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all four Sunan collections. This is a variant entry for the same scholar listed at index 244.
