Al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Syria, belonging to the tribe of Kindah. He was one of the companions who settled in the Levant and transmitted prophetic knowledge there for many years, becoming one of the last surviving companions in Syria and dying reportedly over one hundred years of age around 87 AH. He narrated hadiths on the authority and necessity of the Sunnah alongside the Quran — including the famous narration in which the Prophet warned against those who would reject the Sunnah and say they only follow the Quran, insisting that what the Prophet declared forbidden was equivalent to what the Quran declared forbidden. This narration is foundational in classical Islamic legal methodology (usul al-fiqh). He also narrated hadiths on the rights of guests, permissible foods, and restrictions on killing certain animals such as donkeys and birds of prey. His narrations appear in the Sunan of Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Ahmad's Musnad.
