امرأة نوح
The wife of Prophet Nuh AS is mentioned in the Quran (Surah al-Tahrim 66:10) as one of two examples of women whose disbelief was not removed by marriage to a prophet: 'Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Nuh and the wife of Lut. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so those prophets did not avail them from Allah at all, and it was said: Enter the Fire with those who enter.' Islamic tradition names her al-Waghila (some sources say Namwa or Wayla). Her betrayal was not personal but theological — she publicly disagreed with her husband's mission and sided with the disbelievers, mocking and undermining his call. Nuh AS preached for 950 years (Surah al-Ankabut 29:14), and throughout this enormously long mission, his wife remained opposed to his message. When the flood came and Nuh called even his son to board the ark (Surah Hud 11:42-43), his wife was among those who drowned. The Quran uses her story, paired with that of the wife of Lut, to make a profound theological point: family bond with a prophet conveys no automatic protection. Every soul stands alone before Allah. The corollary case is Asiyah, the believing wife of Firawn — faith in the household of the greatest tyrant sufficed. The point is not about gender but about the primacy of individual faith.
