This entry refers to Zaid ibn Aslam transmitting hadiths from his father Aslam, the freed slave and close companion of Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. Aslam ibn Zayd was one of Umar's most trusted attendants and witnesses, present throughout Umar's caliphate and privy to many of his decisions and practices. He preserved narrations about Umar's conduct, judgments, and personal worship that became important sources for understanding the second caliph's Sunnah. Zaid ibn Aslam, who was himself a prominent Medinan Tabi'i scholar, transmitted these narrations from his father and became one of the most important channels through which Umar's legacy reached the scholarly community. The chain 'Zaid ibn Aslam from his father' appears in the Muwatta of Imam Malik and in other major collections, preserving reports that illuminate the practice of the second caliph. These narrations are cited in classical fiqh literature when discussing the practices of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and the normative behavior of the early Muslim community in Medina.
