Conversion of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas

إسلام سعد بن أبي وقاص

Mecca

Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas of Banu Zuhrah accepted Islam at the age of seventeen, making him one of the earliest converts through Abu Bakr's call. When his mother Hamnah bint Sufyan learned of his conversion, she refused to eat or drink until he renounced Islam, sitting in the sun and declaring she would die of hunger. Sa'd came to her and said: 'O mother, even if you had a hundred souls and they departed one by one, I would not leave my religion.' Allah revealed regarding this incident: 'But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them' (Luqman 31:15). Sa'd later became the conqueror of Persia at the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah and was one of the ten promised Paradise.
