Detailed Account of the Expulsion of Banu Nadir
تفاصيل إجلاء بني النضير
The Prophet went to Banu Nadir's territory to discuss the payment of blood money for two men inadvertently killed by Amr ibn Umayyah al-Damri. While the Prophet sat against the wall of one of their houses, Banu Nadir secretly plotted to drop a boulder on him from the rooftop. Allah informed the Prophet through revelation, and he quietly left before the assassination attempt. The Prophet then sent Muhammad ibn Maslamah to inform Banu Nadir they had ten days to leave Medina. They initially prepared to depart, but Abdullah ibn Ubayy (the chief hypocrite) secretly sent word promising the support of two thousand fighters if they resisted. Emboldened, Banu Nadir fortified themselves in their strongholds. The Prophet besieged them for approximately fifteen days, during which the Muslims cut down some of their palm trees to weaken their resolve, an action later authorized by Allah in Surah al-Hashr: 'Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by permission of Allah.' When the promised support from Ibn Ubayy never came, Banu Nadir surrendered and departed for Khaybar, each family loading as much as their camels could carry.
