Aftermath of the Journey to Ta'if
ما بعد رحلة الطائف
After the leaders of Ta'if rejected the Prophet's message and set children and slaves upon him to pelt him with stones until his blessed feet bled, the Prophet sought refuge in a vineyard belonging to Utbah and Shaybah, sons of Rabi'ah. There, exhausted and bleeding, he made his famous supplication: 'O Allah, to You I complain of my weakness, lack of resources, and lowliness before the people. You are the Most Merciful. You are the Lord of the weak and You are my Lord. To whom will You entrust me?' Allah sent the Angel of the Mountains, who offered to crush the people of Ta'if between the two mountains, but the Prophet refused, saying: 'Rather, I hope that Allah will bring from their descendants people who will worship Allah alone.' A Christian slave named Addas, from Nineveh, brought grapes to the Prophet and was moved when the Prophet mentioned the Prophet Yunus from the same city. Addas kissed the Prophet's hands, head, and feet. The Prophet then re-entered Mecca under the protection of al-Mut'im ibn Adi.
