Detailed Account of the Night Journey to Jerusalem

تفاصيل رحلة الإسراء إلى القدس

Jerusalem (al-Masjid al-Aqsa)

During the Isra, the Prophet was transported from Makkah to al-Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem on al-Buraq, a heavenly steed that traveled at lightning speed, placing each hoof at the farthest point of its gaze. Upon arrival, the Prophet tied al-Buraq to the ring at the gate of al-Masjid al-Aqsa, entered the mosque, and led all the previous prophets in prayer, establishing the spiritual centrality of both Mecca and Jerusalem in Islam and confirming Muhammad's position as the seal and leader of all prophets. During the journey, he passed by points of significance: at the place where Musa was buried near the red sand hill, he saw Musa praying in his grave. He was offered milk and wine; he chose milk, and Jibreel said: 'You have chosen the fitrah (natural disposition).' The Quraysh mocked his account the next morning, and Abu Bakr earned the title al-Siddiq by immediately believing him. When the Quraysh tested the Prophet by asking him to describe al-Masjid al-Aqsa, Allah showed it to him in a vision and he described it in exact detail.
