The Prophet Presents Islam to Arab Tribes During Hajj

عرض الإسلام على القبائل في الحج

Mina and surrounding areas, Mecca

After the Year of Sorrow and the rejection at Ta'if, the Prophet began approaching the various Arab tribes who came to Mecca for the annual pilgrimage and trade fairs at Ukaz, Majannah, and Dhul-Majaz. He would visit their camps, introduce himself, and call them to Islam. He approached the tribes of Kindah, Kalb, Banu Hanifah, Banu Amir ibn Sa'sa'ah, and many others. Abu Lahab would often follow behind him, telling the tribes: 'Do not listen to him, he is a liar and a heretic.' Most tribes rejected him, some politely and others harshly. Banu Amir ibn Sa'sa'ah expressed interest but demanded power after the Prophet's eventual success, which the Prophet declined, saying: 'The matter belongs to Allah; He places it where He wills.' This period of persistent rejection would soon give way to the breakthrough with the people of Yathrib.
