Six Men of Khazraj Accept Islam
إسلام الستة من الخزرج
During the Hajj season, the Prophet met a small group of six men from the Khazraj tribe of Yathrib at Aqabah near Mina. They were As'ad ibn Zurarah, Awf ibn al-Harith, Rafi' ibn Malik, Qutbah ibn Amir, Uqbah ibn Amir, and Jabir ibn Abdullah (not the famous Jabir). The Khazraj were familiar with the concept of a coming prophet because their Jewish neighbors in Yathrib had often warned them: 'A prophet is about to be sent, and we will follow him and kill you as Ad and Iram were killed.' When these six men heard the Prophet's message, they recognized what the Jews had described and rushed to accept Islam before the Jews could. They told the Prophet: 'We have left our people, for no tribe is so divided by enmity as they. Perhaps Allah will unite them through you.' They returned to Yathrib and spread Islam, so that there was hardly a household that did not discuss Muhammad.
