1. Preparing Food for the Family of the Deceased
1. إعداد الطعام لأهل المتوفى
It was the practise of the Prophet to have his family prepare food for the relatives of the dead. ﺱٍ ﻗﹶﺎﻟﹶﺕﹾﻴﻤ ﺒِﻨﹾﺕِ ﻋﺎﺀﻤ ﺃَﺴﻥﻋ : ﻭلُ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِ ﺴ ﺭﻊﺠ ﺭﻔﹶﺭﻌ ﺠﺎ ﺃُﺼِﻴﺏﻟﹶﻤ r ﻠِﻪِ ﻓﹶﻘﹶﺎلَ ﺇِﻟﹶﻰ ﺃَﻫ : )) ﻡﻭﺍ ﻟﹶﻬﻨﹶﻌ ﻓﹶﺎﺼﺘِﻬِﻡﻴ ﺸﹸﻐِﻠﹸﻭﺍ ﺒِﺸﹶﺄْﻥِ ﻤﻔﹶﺭٍ ﻗﹶﺩﻌ ﺁلَ ﺠﺇِﻥ ﺎ ﺎﻤ ﻁﹶﻌ (( ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِﺩﺒﻗﹶﺎلَ ﻋ : ﻨﱠﺔﹰ ﺍﻟﹶﺕﹾ ﺴﺎ ﺯﻓﹶﻤ ﺩِﻴﺜﹰﺎ ﻓﹶﺘﹸﺭِﻙ ﺤﺘﱠﻰ ﻜﹶﺎﻥﺤ . Asmaa bint ‘Umays said: When Ja‘far was killed, Allaah’s Messenger returned to his family and said, “Ja‘far’s family is distracted by the affairs of their dead, so prepare some food for them.” ‘Abdullaah53 said: That remained the sunnah until it became an innovation54 and was abandoned.55
