1. Preparing Food for the Family of the Deceased

1. إعداد الطعام لأهل المتوفى

It was the practise of the Prophet to have his family prepare food for the relatives of the dead. ﺱٍ ﻗﹶﺎﻟﹶﺕﹾﻴﻤ ﺒِﻨﹾﺕِ ﻋﺎﺀﻤ ﺃَﺴﻥﻋ : ﻭلُ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِ ﺴ ﺭﻊﺠ ﺭﻔﹶﺭﻌ ﺠﺎ ﺃُﺼِﻴﺏﻟﹶﻤ r ﻠِﻪِ ﻓﹶﻘﹶﺎلَ  ﺇِﻟﹶﻰ ﺃَﻫ : )) ﻡﻭﺍ ﻟﹶﻬﻨﹶﻌ ﻓﹶﺎﺼﺘِﻬِﻡﻴ ﺸﹸﻐِﻠﹸﻭﺍ ﺒِﺸﹶﺄْﻥِ ﻤﻔﹶﺭٍ ﻗﹶﺩﻌ ﺁلَ ﺠﺇِﻥ ﺎ ﺎﻤ ﻁﹶﻌ (( ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِﺩﺒﻗﹶﺎلَ ﻋ : ﻨﱠﺔﹰ ﺍﻟﹶﺕﹾ ﺴﺎ ﺯﻓﹶﻤ ﺩِﻴﺜﹰﺎ ﻓﹶﺘﹸﺭِﻙ ﺤﺘﱠﻰ ﻜﹶﺎﻥﺤ . Asmaa bint ‘Umays said: When Ja‘far was killed, Allaah’s Messenger returned to his family and said, “Ja‘far’s family is distracted by the affairs of their dead, so prepare some food for them.” ‘Abdullaah53 said: That remained the sunnah until it became an innovation54 and was abandoned.55
