It is however preferable to have a place (musallaa) set aside for the funeral prayer outside the masjid as this was the usual practice of the Prophet (r). ِﻭلُ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪﺴﻰ ﻟﹶﻨﹶﺎ ﺭ ﻗﹶﺎلَ ﻨﹶﻌﻨﹾﻪ ﻋﻀِﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪﺓﹶ ﺭﺭﻴﺭ ﺃَﺒِﻲ ﻫﻥﻋ r ﻡﻭﺸﹶﺔِ ﻴﺒ ﺍﻟﹾﺤﺎﺤِﺏ ﺼﺎﺸِﻲ ﺍﻟﻨﱠﺠ ﺎﺕﹶ ﻓِﻴﻪِ ﻓﹶﻘﹶﺎلَﺍﻟﱠﺫِﻱ ﻤ : )) ﻭﺍ ِﻷَﺨِﻴﻜﹸﻡﺘﹶﻐﹾﻔِﺭﺍﺴ (( ﺒِﺎﻟﹾﻑﱠ ﺒِﻬِﻡ ﺼﻭ ﺎﻌﺒﻪِ ﺃَﺭﻠﹶﻴ ﻋﺭﻠﱠﻰ ﻓﹶﻜﹶﺒﺼﻤ . said: “Ask forgiveness for your brother,” and had them line up in rows at the musallaa and prayed for him using four takbeeres.38 ﻭﺍ ﺇِﻟﹶﻰ ﺍﻟﻨﱠﺒِﻲﺎﺀ ﺠﻭﺩﻬ ﺍﻟﹾﻴﺎ ﺃَﻥﻤﻨﹾﻬ ﻋﻀِﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪ ﺭﺭﻤﻥِ ﻋﺩِﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِ ﺒﺒ ﻋﻥﻋ r ﺃَﺓٍ ﺭﺍﻤ ﻭﻡلٍ ﻤِﻨﹾﻬﺠ ﺒِﺭ ﻀِﻊِ ﺍﻭ ﻤﺎ ﻤِﻥﺎ ﻗﹶﺭِﻴﺒﺠِﻤﺎ ﻓﹶﺭ ﺒِﻬِﻤﺭﺎ ﻓﹶﺄَﻤﻨﹶﻴﺯ ﺠِﺩِ ﺴ ﺍﻟﹾﻤﻨﹶﺎﺌِﺯِ ﻋِﻨﹾﺩﻟﹾﺠ . ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar also reported that the Jews came to the Prophet (r) with a man and woman who had committed adultery so he ordered that they be stoned near the place for funeral (prayers) beside the masjid.”39
