Hadith #1Ungraded

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏وَعَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏الْمَعْنَى ‏ ‏قَالَا أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْعَيْزَارِ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَجِبْتُ مِنْ قَضَاءِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ إِنْ أَصَابَهُ خَيْرٌ حَمِدَ رَبَّهُ وَشَكَرَ وَإِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ مُصِيبَةٌ حَمِدَ رَبَّهُ وَصَبَرَ الْمُؤْمِنُ يُؤْجَرُ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى فِي اللُّقْمَةِ يَرْفَعُهَا إِلَى ‏ ‏فِي امْرَأَتِهِ ‏

It was narrated from Sulayman ibn Abi Abdullah who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i saw Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) seize a man who was hunting in the sacred precinct of Madinah which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had declared sacred, and he stripped him of his clothes. His masters came, and Sa'd said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared this place sacred and said: If anyone catches someone hunting in it, let him take his belongings. So I will not return to you what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted me.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَاءَهُ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَعُودُهُ وَهُوَ ‏ ‏بِمَكَّةَ ‏ ‏وَهُوَ يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بِالْأَرْضِ الَّتِي هَاجَرَ مِنْهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ ‏ ‏سَعْدَ ابْنَ عَفْرَاءَ ‏ ‏يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ ‏ ‏سَعْدَ ابْنَ عَفْرَاءَ ‏ ‏وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ إِلَّا ابْنَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أُوصِي بِمَالِي كُلِّهِ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَالنِّصْفُ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَالثُّلُثُ قَالَ ‏ ‏الثُّلُثُ وَالثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ إِنَّكَ أَنْ تَدَعَ وَرَثَتَكَ أَغْنِيَاءَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ تَدَعَهُمْ عَالَةً ‏ ‏يَتَكَفَّفُونَ ‏ ‏النَّاسَ فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ وَإِنَّكَ مَهْمَا أَنْفَقْتَ مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ فَإِنَّهَا ‏ ‏صَدَقَةٌ ‏ ‏حَتَّى اللُّقْمَةَ تَرْفَعُهَا إِلَى ‏ ‏فِي امْرَأَتِكَ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَرْفَعَكَ فَيَنْتَفِعَ بِكَ نَاسٌ وَيُضَرَّ بِكَ آخَرُونَ ‏

It was narrated that Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) used to pray Isha in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then he would pray witr with a single rak'ah, adding nothing more. It was said to him: 'O Abu Ishaq, you pray witr with just one rak'ah?' He said: 'Yes, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The one who does not sleep until he prays his witr is prudent and resolute.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏الْحَدُوا ‏ ‏لِي ‏ ‏لَحْدًا ‏ ‏وَانْصِبُوا ‏ ‏عَلَيَّ كَمَا فُعِلَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) who said: I passed by Uthman ibn Affan in the mosque and greeted him with salam. He looked at me fully but did not return my greeting. So I went to Umar ibn al-Khattab, the Commander of the Believers, and told him. Umar sent for Uthman and asked him about it. Uthman said: 'I did not do that.' Sa'd said: 'Yes, you did.' They continued until they swore oaths. Then Uthman remembered and said: 'Yes, I seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him. You passed by me while I was reflecting on something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. By Allah, I did not intend to ignore you. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: I know words that no servant says sincerely from his heart except that the gates of Heaven are opened for him: La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah).'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَفَّانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ ‏ ‏لِسَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ عَنْ حَدِيثٍ وَأَنَا أَهَابُكَ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ لَا تَفْعَلْ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِذَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ عِنْدِي عِلْمًا فَسَلْنِي عَنْهُ وَلَا تَهَبْنِي قَالَ فَقُلْتُ قَوْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لِعَلِيٍّ ‏ ‏حِينَ خَلَّفَهُ ‏ ‏بِالْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏فِي ‏ ‏غَزْوَةِ ‏ ‏تَبُوكَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏سَعْدٌ ‏ ‏خَلَّفَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَلِيًّا ‏ ‏بِالْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏فِي ‏ ‏غَزْوَةِ ‏ ‏تَبُوكَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتُخَلِّفُنِي فِي الْخَالِفَةِ فِي النِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَمَا ‏ ‏تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ ‏ ‏هَارُونَ ‏ ‏مِنْ ‏ ‏مُوسَى ‏ ‏قَالَ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَأَدْبَرَ ‏ ‏عَلِيٌّ ‏ ‏مُسْرِعًا كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى غُبَارِ قَدَمَيْهِ يَسْطَعُ ‏ ‏وَقَدْ قَالَ ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ ‏ ‏فَرَجَعَ ‏ ‏عَلِيٌّ ‏ ‏مُسْرِعًا ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) that Ali (رضي الله عنه) went out with the Prophet ﷺ until they reached Thaniyyat al-Wada'. Ali was weeping and saying: 'You leave me behind with the women and children?' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Are you not content that you are to me as Harun was to Musa (عليهما السلام), except that there is no prophet after me?'

Hadith #5Ungraded

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَفَّانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَلِيمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏ذُكِرَ الطَّاعُونُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏رِجْزٌ ‏ ‏أُصِيبَ بِهِ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَإِذَا كَانَ بِأَرْضٍ فَلَا تَدْخُلُوهَا وَإِذَا كَانَ بِهَا وَأَنْتُمْ بِهَا فَلَا تَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet ﷺ used to say: 'My ummah will not be too insignificant before their Lord for Him to delay them half a day.' I asked Rashid: 'Have you heard what half a day means?' He said: 'Five hundred years.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَكْحُولٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الرَّجُلُ يَكُونُ حَامِيَةَ الْقَوْمِ أَيَكُونُ سَهْمُهُ وَسَهْمُ غَيْرِهِ سَوَاءً قَالَ ‏ ‏ثَكِلَتْكَ ‏ ‏أُمُّكَ يَا ‏ ‏ابْنَ أُمِّ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏وَهَلْ تُرْزَقُونَ وَتُنْصَرُونَ إِلَّا بِضُعَفَائِكُمْ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about this verse: 'He is capable of sending punishment upon you from above you or from beneath your feet' (al-An'am 6:65). the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It will come. But its appointed time has not yet arrived.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏مُصْعَبَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَشَدُّ بَلَاءً فَقَالَ ‏ ‏الْأَنْبِيَاءُ ثُمَّ الْأَمْثَلُ فَالْأَمْثَلُ ‏ ‏فَيُبْتَلَى الرَّجُلُ عَلَى حَسَبِ دِينِهِ فَإِنْ كَانَ رَقِيقَ الدِّينِ ابْتُلِيَ عَلَى حَسَبِ ذَاكَ وَإِنْ كَانَ صُلْبَ الدِّينِ ابْتُلِيَ عَلَى حَسَبِ ذَاكَ قَالَ فَمَا تَزَالُ الْبَلَايَا بِالرَّجُلِ حَتَّى يَمْشِيَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا عَلَيْهِ خَطِيئَةٌ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'If even what a fingernail could carry of what is in Paradise were to appear, it would beautify everything between the horizons of the heavens and the earth. And if a man from the people of Paradise were to look out and his bracelet became visible, it would outshine the light of the sun, just as the sun outshines the stars.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏سَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏جَمَعَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَبَوَيْهِ يَوْمَ ‏ ‏أُحُدٍ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) who said: 'I saw on the right of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and on his left on the day of Uhud two men wearing white garments, fighting on his behalf most fiercely. I had not seen them before or after that day' — meaning Jibril and Mika'il (عليهما السلام).

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏مَوْلَى ‏ ‏جُهَيْنَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏مُصْعَبَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَكْسِبَ فِي الْيَوْمِ أَلْفَ حَسَنَةٍ قَالَ وَمَنْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ يُسَبِّحُ مِائَةَ تَسْبِيحَةٍ فَيُكْتَبُ لَهُ أَلْفُ حَسَنَةٍ ‏ ‏وَتُمْحَى عَنْهُ أَلْفُ سَيِّئَةٍ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) who said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: 'No prayer should be offered after two prayers: after the Fajr prayer until the sun rises, and after the Asr prayer until the sun sets.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا عُثْمَانَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏سَعْدًا ‏ ‏وَهُوَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ رَمَى بِسَهْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏وَأَبَا بَكْرَةَ ‏ ‏تَسَوَّرَ حِصْنَ ‏ ‏الطَّائِفِ ‏ ‏فِي نَاسٍ فَجَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَا ‏ ‏سَمِعْنَا النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَهُوَ يَقُولُ ‏ ‏مَنْ ادَّعَى إِلَى أَبٍ غَيْرِ أَبِيهِ وَهُوَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ أَبِيهِ فَالْجَنَّةُ عَلَيْهِ حَرَامٌ ‏

It was narrated from Abu Uthman who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i heard Sa'd — he was the first to shoot an arrow in the path of Allah — and Abu Bakrah, who climbed over the fortress of Ta'if among some people and came to the Prophet ﷺ, both of them saying: We heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever claims a father who is not his, while knowing this, Paradise is forbidden for him.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏قَيْسَ بْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏سَعْدٌ ‏ ‏لَقَدْ ‏ ‏رَأَيْتُنِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏سَابِعَ سَبْعَةٍ وَمَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا ‏ ‏وَرَقَ الْحُبْلَةِ ‏ ‏حَتَّى إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا لَيَضَعُ كَمَا تَضَعُ الشَّاةُ مَا يُخَالِطُهُ شَيْءٌ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَتْ ‏ ‏بَنُو أَسَدٍ ‏ ‏يُعَزِّرُونِي ‏ ‏عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ لَقَدْ خَسِرْتُ إِذَنْ وَضَلَّ سَعْيِي ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) who said: 'I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as one of seven, and we had no food except the leaves of the hubla tree, to the point that one of us would pass droppings like those of sheep or goats. Now Banu Asad want to instruct me in religion — I would be a loser and my efforts would be wasted [if they were right about me].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَاصِمٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏أَبُو عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيُّ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏ابْنَ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ ادَّعَى إِلَى غَيْرِ أَبِيهِ وَهُوَ يَعْلَمُ فَالْجَنَّةُ عَلَيْهِ حَرَامٌ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever claims to belong to someone other than his father while knowing [the truth], Paradise is forbidden for him.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏جَدِّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَا ‏ ‏سَعْدُ ‏ ‏قُمْ فَأَذِّنْ ‏ ‏بِمِنًى ‏ ‏إِنَّهَا أَيَّامُ أَكْلٍ وَشُرْبٍ وَلَا صَوْمَ فِيهَا ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'O Sa'd, stand and announce in Mina: These are days of eating and drinking; there is no fasting in them' — meaning the days of Tashriq.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَائِدَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏سَعْدٌ ‏ ‏فِيَّ سَنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏الثُّلُثَ أَتَانِي يَعُودُنِي قَالَ فَقَالَ لِي أَوْصَيْتَ قَالَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ ‏ ‏جَعَلْتُ مَالِي كُلَّهُ فِي الْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ قَالَ لَا تَفْعَلْ قُلْتُ إِنَّ وَرَثَتِي أَغْنِيَاءُ قُلْتُ الثُّلُثَيْنِ قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ ‏ ‏فَالشَّطْرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ الثُّلُثَ قَالَ الثُّلُثُ وَالثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) who said: 'It was regarding me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ established the rule of one-third [in bequests]. He came to visit me while I was ill and said: Have you made a bequest? I said: Yes, I have bequeathed all my wealth for the sake of Allah. He said: A quarter. I said: [All of it.] He said: A third, and a third is much. That the heirs you leave behind be wealthy is better than leaving them poor, begging from people.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُوَيْدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبَانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْحَضْرَمِيِّ بْنِ لَاحِقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَا ‏ ‏هَامَةَ ‏ ‏وَلَا عَدْوَى وَلَا ‏ ‏طِيَرَةَ ‏ ‏إِنْ يَكُنْ فَفِي الْمَرْأَةِ وَالدَّابَّةِ وَالدَّارِ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Malik (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is no hamah (superstitious belief about owl omens), no contagion [spreading by itself without Allah's decree], and no tiyarah (evil omens from birds). If there is any [ill omen], it would be in a woman, a horse, or a dwelling.'

‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَرَأْتُ عَلَى ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَبِي ‏ ‏و حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ‏ ‏سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ‏ ‏وَالضَّحَّاكَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ ‏ ‏عَامَ حَجَّ ‏ ‏مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏وَهُمَا يَذْكُرَانِ ‏ ‏التَّمَتُّعَ ‏ ‏بِالْعُمْرَةِ إِلَى الْحَجِّ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏الضَّحَّاكُ ‏ ‏لَا يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ إِلَّا مَنْ جَهِلَ أَمْرَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏سَعْدٌ ‏ ‏بِئْسَمَا قُلْتَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي فَقَالَ ‏ ‏الضَّحَّاكُ ‏ ‏فَإِنَّ ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ‏ ‏قَدْ نَهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏سَعْدٌ ‏ ‏قَدْ ‏ ‏صَنَعَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَصَنَعْنَاهَا مَعَهُ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) and Khalid ibn al-Walid (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever claims to belong to someone other than his father, while knowing that he is not his father, Paradise is forbidden for him.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏سَعْدٌ ‏ ‏وَقَالَ ‏ ‏مَرَّةً ‏ ‏سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏سَعْدًا ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏سَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَايَ وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي مِنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ ‏ ‏مَنْ ادَّعَى أَبًا غَيْرَ أَبِيهِ وَهُوَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ أَبِيهِ فَالْجَنَّةُ عَلَيْهِ حَرَامٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏فَلَقِيتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا بَكْرَةَ ‏ ‏فَحَدَّثْتُهُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏وَأَنَا سَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَايَ وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي مِنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) who said: 'My ears heard and my heart retained from Muhammad (ﷺ) that whoever claims a father other than his father, while knowing he is not his father, Paradise is forbidden for him.'

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet ﷺ said to Ali (رضي الله عنه): 'Are you not content to be to me as Harun was to Musa (عليهما السلام)?'

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'That the belly of one of you be filled with pus which corrodes him is better for him than that it be filled with poetry.'

It was narrated from Sa'd (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet ﷺ said concerning the plague: 'If it breaks out in a land, do not enter it. And if you are in it, do not flee from it.' Shu'bah said: I also heard this from a man of the household of Sa'd, from Sa'd, from the Prophet ﷺ, with a similar meaning.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ ‏ ‏لِسَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏إِنَّكَ إِنْسَانٌ فِيكَ حِدَّةٌ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ قَالَ مَا هُوَ قَالَ قُلْتُ حَدِيثُ ‏ ‏عَلِيٍّ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لِعَلِيٍّ ‏ ‏أَمَا ‏ ‏تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ ‏ ‏هَارُونَ ‏ ‏مِنْ ‏ ‏مُوسَى ‏ ‏قَالَ رَضِيتُ ثُمَّ قَالَ بَلَى بَلَى ‏

It was narrated from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i said to Sa'd ibn Malik: 'You are a man who has intensity, and I want to ask you [something].' He said: 'What is it?' I said: 'The hadith about Ali.' He said: the Prophet ﷺ was asked about Ali, and three things were mentioned that were said to him. If I had even one of them, it would be dearer to me than red camels. the Prophet ﷺ left Ali behind during one of his expeditions, and Ali said: O Messenger of Allah, you leave me behind with the women and children? He said: Are you not content to be to me as Harun was to Musa, except there is no prophet after me? And I heard him say on the day of Khaybar: I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him. And when the verse of Mubahalah was revealed, the Prophet ﷺ called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn and said: O Allah, these are my family.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عَوْنٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ‏ ‏وَبَهْزٌ ‏ ‏وَعَفَّانُ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏أَبُو عَوْنٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏بَهْزٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏عُمَرُ ‏ ‏لِسَعْدٍ ‏ ‏شَكَاكَ النَّاسُ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى فِي الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ أَمَّا أَنَا ‏ ‏فَأَمُدُّ ‏ ‏مِنْ الْأُولَيَيْنِ ‏ ‏وَأَحْذِفُ ‏ ‏مِنْ الْأُخْرَيَيْنِ وَلَا ‏ ‏آلُو ‏ ‏مَا اقْتَدَيْتُ بِهِ مِنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏عُمَرُ ‏ ‏ذَاكَ الظَّنُّ بِكَ ‏ ‏أَوْ ظَنِّي بِكَ ‏

It was narrated from Jabir ibn Samurah who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that umar said to Sa'd: 'The people have complained about you in everything — even in your prayer.' Sa'd said: 'As for me, I pray for them the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I lengthen the first two rak'ahs and shorten the last two.' Umar said: 'That is what was expected of you, O Abu Ishaq.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏فِطْرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَرِيكٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الرُّقَيْمِ الْكِنَانِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏خَرَجْنَا إِلَى ‏ ‏الْمَدِينَةِ ‏ ‏زَمَنَ الْجَمَلِ فَلَقِيَنَا ‏ ‏سَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏بِهَا فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِسَدِّ الْأَبْوَابِ الشَّارِعَةِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَتَرْكِ بَابِ ‏ ‏عَلِيٍّ ‏

It was narrated from Abdullah ibn ar-Ruqaym al-Kinani who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that we went out to Madinah during the time of the Battle of the Camel, and Sa'd ibn Malik met us there. He said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that all the doors [opening into the mosque] be closed except the door of Ali.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ الْقُرَشِيُّ ثُمَّ التَّيْمِيُّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَهِيكٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ ‏ ‏يَتَغَنَّ ‏ ‏بِالْقُرْآنِ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'He is not one of us who does not chant the Quran beautifully [recite it melodiously].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏لَيْثٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عُقَيْلٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ‏ ‏سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَرَادَ ‏ ‏عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ ‏ ‏أَنْ ‏ ‏يَتَبَتَّلَ ‏ ‏فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَلَوْ أَجَازَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ‏ ‏لَاخْتَصَيْنَا ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) who said: Uthman ibn Maz'un wanted to practice celibacy, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade him. Had he permitted it, we would have been castrated.

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about selling fresh dates for dried dates. He said: 'Do fresh dates shrink when they dry?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then no [it is not permitted].'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَعْلَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عُثْمَانُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَامِرُ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَقْبَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏حَتَّى مَرَرْنَا عَلَى مَسْجِدِ ‏ ‏بَنِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏فَدَخَلَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ وَنَاجَى رَبَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ طَوِيلًا قَالَ ‏ ‏سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ثَلَاثًا سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُهْلِكَ أُمَّتِي بِالْغَرَقِ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُهْلِكَ أُمَّتِي ‏ ‏بِالسَّنَةِ ‏ ‏فَأَعْطَانِيهَا وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يَجْعَلَ ‏ ‏بَأْسَهُمْ ‏ ‏بَيْنَهُمْ فَمَنَعَنِيهَا ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) who said: We came with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and passed by the mosque of Banu Mu'awiyah. He entered and prayed two rak'ahs, and we prayed with him. He spoke privately to his Lord for a long time, then said: 'I asked my Lord for three things. He granted me two and withheld one. I asked Him not to destroy my ummah with famine, and He granted it. I asked Him not to destroy my ummah by drowning, and He granted it. And I asked Him not to make their might against one another, but He withheld it.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَعْلَى ‏ ‏وَيَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏رَجُلٌ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ ‏ ‏أُسَمِّيهِ فَنَسِيتُ اسْمَهُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَتْ لِي حَاجَةٌ إِلَى أَبِي ‏ ‏سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏و حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو حَيَّانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُجَمِّعٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ ‏ ‏لِعُمَرَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏إِلَى أَبِيهِ حَاجَةٌ ‏ ‏فَقَدَّمَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَاجَتِهِ كَلَامًا مِمَّا يُحَدِّثُ النَّاسُ يُوصِلُونَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَسْمَعُهُ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ قَدْ فَرَغْتَ مِنْ كَلَامِكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْ حَاجَتِكَ أَبْعَدَ وَلَا كُنْتُ فِيكَ أَزْهَدَ مِنِّي مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُ كَلَامَكَ هَذَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏سَيَكُونُ قَوْمٌ يَأْكُلُونَ بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ الْبَقَرَةُ مِنْ الْأَرْضِ ‏

It was narrated from Umar ibn Sa'd who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i had a need to go to my father Sa'd. He found him at his estate. Sa'd said: 'That man is calling to this matter [of fitna and strife]. Seek refuge with Allah — or said: I seek refuge with Allah — from the evil of this tribulation.' He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'There will come a tribulation in which the one sitting is better than the one standing, and the one standing is better than the one walking, and the one walking is better than the one rushing. Do not be the one to rush to it.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏شَكَا أَهْلُ ‏ ‏الْكُوفَةِ ‏ ‏سَعْدًا ‏ ‏إِلَى ‏ ‏عُمَرَ ‏ ‏فَقَالُوا لَا يُحْسِنُ ‏ ‏يُصَلِّي قَالَ فَسَأَلَهُ ‏ ‏عُمَرُ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ إِنِّي ‏ ‏أُصَلِّي بِهِمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَرْكُدُ ‏ ‏فِي الْأُولَيَيْنِ ‏ ‏وَأَحْذِفُ ‏ ‏فِي الْأُخْرَيَيْنِ قَالَ ذَلِكَ الظَّنُّ بِكَ يَا ‏ ‏أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ ‏

It was narrated from Jabir ibn Samurah who (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the people of Kufa complained about Sa'd to Umar, saying: 'He does not pray well.' Umar asked him, and Sa'd said: 'I pray for them the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, not falling short in it. I lengthen the first two rak'ahs of Isha and shorten the last two.' Umar said: 'That is what was expected of you, O Abu Ishaq.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قِتَالُ الْمُؤْمِنِ كُفْرٌ وَسِبَابُهُ فُسُوقٌ وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Fighting a believer is disbelief, and reviling him is sinfulness. And it is not permissible for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three days.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ ‏ ‏مِنْ أَكْبَرِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ جُرْمًا رَجُلًا سَأَلَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ وَنَقَّرَ عَنْهُ حَتَّى أُنْزِلَ فِي ذَلِكَ الشَّيْءِ تَحْرِيمٌ مِنْ أَجْلِ مَسْأَلَتِهِ ‏

It was narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The greatest of Muslims in sin against the Muslims is a man who asks about something that was not forbidden, and it becomes forbidden because of his question.'
